If you’re considering moving to Canberra, now is the perfect time to get informed about the ACT migration program. Here’s the latest update for 2025/26 and what it means for skilled workers, graduates, and business migrants.

1. Nomination Places for 2025/26
The ACT Government has been allocated 165 interim nomination places for the current migration year. These spots are for skilled migrants who meet the criteria for ACT nomination. Keep in mind that numbers may change as the year progresses, so staying updated is essential.

2. Canberra Matrix Invitations
The Canberra Matrix is the system used to invite skilled migration applicants. The latest invitation round was held on 30 May 2025. Skilled migrants applying for subclasses 190 & 491 may receive invitations through this system depending on their occupation and points.

3. Business & Innovation Programs
Some business and innovation pathways are currently closed:

  • Business Innovation & Investment Program (BIIP) – Closed for new applications
  • National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858) – Not yet open for ACT nomination

If you’re interested in these programs, it’s important to monitor updates, as the ACT Government may reopen them in the future.

4. Doctorate Streamlined Nomination
PhD holders in Canberra may be eligible for a streamlined nomination pathway, making it faster to obtain ACT nomination. This is a great option for highly skilled graduates looking to settle in Canberra.

5. Things to Keep in Mind
Nomination places and program availability can change throughout the year, so it’s important to stay updated. Always check the official ACT Migration site for the latest information, and remember that skilled migration through the Canberra Matrix is competitive — make sure your application meets all eligibility criteria.

Canberra continues to offer excellent opportunities for skilled migrants, graduates, and entrepreneurs. If you’re considering migrating, staying informed and planning your application carefully is the key to success.
