- New visa categories – The Skills in Demand visa has three different streams now
- Higher salary requirements – Core skills stream needs $73,150 minimum (going up to $76,515 in July)
- Regional focus – More spots are going to people willing to work outside major cities.
- Employer sponsorship priority – Employer-sponsored visas increased to 44,000 places while independent visas dropped to 16,900
What do These Numbers Mean?
The government is pushing people toward employer sponsorship and regional areas. Independent skilled visas got cut nearly in half, which means you’ll need either a job offer or a willingness to live regionally.
- If you have a job offer, your chances just got much better with more employer-sponsored places available.
- If you’re going independent, Competition is much tougher with fewer spots available.
- If you’ll consider regional – This could be your best pathway with 33,000 regional places available.
The Skills in Demand Visa Breakdown
