Who Will Carry Out the Review?
Dr Martin Parkinson AC PSM, former Secretary of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and Macquarie University chancellor, Dr Joanna Howe, Associate Professor in Law at the University of Adelaide, and former Skilled Migration Ministerial Advisory Council member John Azarias have been appointed by the Minister to conduct the review.
These three distinguished individuals were chosen for their expertise and reputation for positively contributing to Australia's economic and public policy achievements. They represent Australian society in terms of gender balance and migration backgrounds, and they have experience in business, technology, and major public reviews. A taskforce within the Department of Home Affairs will assist them.
While this review is ongoing and is a positive step towards a better migration programme, changes to the migration system are unlikely to take effect for at least another nine to twelve months.
