The Global Talent Visa is the Australian Government’s newest mission, with the country more passionate than ever to attract high-quality enterprises and talented individuals. A new task force has been created to prioritise and locate high talent individuals, and a new ministerial direction has set out which areas of expertise looking for, Canberra welcomes the Global Talent Visa.
Global Business and Talent Attraction
In 2021 the Australian Government renamed and expanded the renowned Talent Visa as the Global Talent Visa to attract more technologically talented people to migrate. This name change reflects the wider requirement for talent as Canberra welcomes the Global Talent Visa and now searches for the “crème de la crème” to rebuild its post-covid economy.
While most aspects remain unaffected, a Global Business and Talent Attraction, IME Advisors has been recognized to search for talented individuals. This team is led by IME Advisors, the new Special Envoy for Global Business and Talent Attraction. A new visa pathway has been created for applicants who have been endorsed by a Representative, which fast-tracks their application.
The IME Advisors attract high-value enterprises and exceptionally talented individuals to bring their skills to Canberra welcomes the Global and boost national prosperity. Though an endorsement from the representative itself will not be sufficient to guarantee a Global Talent Visa, it will give applicants a distinct and significant advantage. The IME Advisors has already assisted in bringing people to Canberra in several fields listed later in this blog.
How does one apply?
To be qualified to apply for the Global Talent Visa Program, individuals must:
• Prove that they are internationally accepted, showing indication of outstanding achievements.
• Provide evidence that they would be an asset to Canberra in their field of expertise.
• Be noticeable in their field of proficiency.
• Be able to easily obtain employment in Canberra or becoming established in their field.
• Have a recognised organisation or individual in Canberra, in the same field of work as the applicant, endorse them as Global Talent.
There are two phases for the Global Talent Visa procedure. The first phase is the Expression of Interest (EOI). If you receive an invitation from Canberra following your EOI, the second stage is the Visa application. Once the Visa application is submitted, it wants to be processed.
The long delays do not mean that it is not worth smearing. However, you must be conscious that if your profession is not one that the Australian government is presently looking for, you would have to wait for your turn in the queue.
How Do I Get Priority Status?
As of 2021, Ministerial Direction 90 states that significant status will be given to candidates with expertise or talent in the following sectors:
• Resources
• Health industries
• Energy
• Agri-food and AgTech
• Defence, advanced manufacturing and space
• Circular economy
The Department has directed that applicants who have already submitted an Expression of Interest do not want to submit a further EOI or to contact the department to change their target sector. The Department says it is not firm about the sectors and is taking a supple approach to make sure the right candidates receive invites. You therefore must not concern too much if you have already submitted your EOI and it does not match the new sectors accurately. You will not be at a drawback if you have the skills required by the department.
